Andres "Andy" Morales, 85, passed away Monday, August 7, 2017. He was a lifelong resident of El Paso, TX and a member of St. Raphael Catholic Church. Andy was a proud 1950 graduate of Bowie High School, where he was an all-state football player and a member of the 1949 baseball state championship team. Andy received a football scholarship to attend UNM, but left midway to serve as a sailor in the Navy during the Korean War. He returned to UNM and received his Bachelor's degree in Education. Andres "Andy" Morales, 85, passed away Monday, August 7, 2017. He was a lifelong resident of El Paso, TX and a member of St. Raphael Catholic Church. Andy was a proud 1950 graduate of Bowie High School, where he was an all-state football player and a member of the 1949 baseball state championship team. Andy received a football scholarship to attend UNM, but left midway to serve as a sailor in the Navy during the Korean War. He returned to UNM and received his Bachelor's degree in Education. For over 30 years he was a teacher, coach, and an advocate for the Special Olympics. He was inducted into the the El Paso Athletic Hall of Fame, the El Paso Baseball Hall of Fame, and was selected to throw the first pitch for the Chihuahua's inaugural game in 2014. He was devoted to his family and was their biggest cheerleader and supporter. Andy is survived by his wife of 63 years, Clotilde, and his children: Yvonne Morales Sanchez, Robert Morales (Ann), Theresa Morales Valenzuela (Joe John), Michelle Morales and Adrian Morales (Deborah), grandchildren: Andrea, Jonathon, Kristyn, Natalie, Rebekah, Jason, Alyssa, Elijah, Isabel, and Clarisa, great-grandchildren: Sophia, Zoe, Jack, Andrew, Julian, Elise, Madeleine, Alanna, and Audryanna, and brothers: Manny and Humberto Morales. Andy is preceded in death by his siblings; Sofia, Edmundo, Andres Isidro, and Lina Hernandez. Visitation will be on Thursday, August 10th from 6:30PM to 9PM with a rosary at 7PM at St. Raphael Catholic Church. Funeral mass will be Friday, August 11th at 9:15AM at St. Raphael Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Fort Bliss National Cemetery with military honors. Memorial contributions may be made to The American Cancer Society or The Texas Special Olympics.
